Prostate Cancer Risk Factors

What are the prostate cancer risk factors? There are known factors contributing to prostate cancer. However, they are very similar to the factors contributing to breast cancer. Some of those factors are low fiber diet, high-fat diet, physical inactivity, and overweight. All those factors are thought to contribute to a higher risk of developing prostate cancer.

Besides age and ethnicity, family history is one of the risk factors related to prostate cancer. Having a father or a brother with prostate cancer doubles the risk of developing this type of cancer. Several genes contribute to the risk of prostate cancer. They include a gene mutation of HoxB13 9 (a type of protein), BRCA1 and BRCA2. Those genes contribute to prostate cancer in men risk just like they contribute to breast cancer in women.
